Conclusions

We believe, and our research helps to support our theories that medication is just one very popular option of many. The diagnosis itself is very broad leading to potential of misdiagnosis due to the vast amount of changes of the definition over time. We can also attribute the underlying pressure to do well in schools from a very young age to parental stress in seeking what is “wrong” with their child. One study stated that in some cases, the medication is more effective for the caretakers, meaning the teachers and the parents, than it is for the child with ADHD. Parents want the best for their children, but sometimes the best is confused with a diagnosis. That diagnosis could end up hurting the child more than poor school performance. There is also the potential for dependency issues, as the stimulant medication is known to be addictive.
